Brooke and Chase Lawrence (b. 1995) are a collaborative duo of Puerto Rican and American contemporary artists specializing in sculpture and oil painting. Holding BFAs from Kennesaw State University, they are distinguished by their signature use of biomorphic design and biophilic mediums, utilizing live and preserved botanicals to explore the tension and balance between the organic natural world and the man-made.
Their practice engages in a conceptual dialogue across time, contrasting the occult philosophy of antiquity and the medieval Dark Ages with the potential abandonment or embrace of present and future technology. Their work is a powerful, thematic study of Mother Nature's ultimate reclamation over the industrial world, or its eventual harmony with it. Visually and conceptually drawing upon alchemy and mystical traditions, the Lawrences posit a spiritual integration with science, medicine, technology, and engineering that challenges the dominating paradigm of scientific materialism at present. Manifesting synergy between nature’s raw materials and humanity’s artificially engineered contributions, their artwork opens a unique conversation between art, ecology, and spirituality.
